I am Tina Turner and currently a student in the School of Education at Houston Baptist University. I have over twenty years experience in working with students and together, with my husband, have raised four children of our own. As each of our children have successfully left our nest to build nests of their own, I came to realize that I still have much to offer the next generation. I want to teach history with passion and excellence, while providing my students the learning opportunities needed, for them to grow and become successful leaders in our world.
Philosophy of Education
I truly believe that teaching is more than just a profession. As teachers, we are making an investment in the next generation. We are helping to develop the skills and belief systems of the students that pass through our classrooms. Every student is a unique individual, created by God, and full of possibilities. It is my responsibility, as a teacher, to help students realize their full potential. I will do this by setting high expectations and believing in them until they also believe in themselves. I desire to provide a safe and thoughtful learning environment, for each student as they develop emotionally, intellectually, and socially.
Emotionally, students will thrive in a secure, caring classroom where high expectations for learning are recognized. Setting clear expectations encourages the motivation that students need to achieve learning objectives. I will provide positive ways to motivate learning and address discipline issues.
Intellectually, students need a stimulating environment, designed to cultivate their natural curiosity. They need a classroom with opportunity for exploration, and hands on learning. Students need to experience how learning is relevant to their own lives. Providing strategic plans for self- discovery provides confidence building skills they will need to succeed.
Socially, students must learn to love and respect others. We live in communities and our actions affect those living around us. The classroom community is a wonderful way to equip students with the skills needed for building good relationships and accepting personal responsibility for their actions.
Students are our future and are worth all that we invest in them. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential.

Assistive technology enables students with certain disabilities to participate in the general classroom. Teachers need to know why these devices are necessary for individuals needing them. We also should promote the success of all students including the ones with disabilities. Helping all students to do their best will foster a positive climate for learning.

I oserved in a school where learning was active and absolutely engaging. Althought the students that I observed were younger than the high school students I will be teaching, I want my classroom to be filled with energy, interest and hands on learning.

Teachers need to use technology in the classroom today. It needs to be part of every unit plan. These projects gave me a better understanding of how to use technology with my students.
